The Accra Circuit Court has issued an arrest warrant for a businessman accused of hijacking a GH50,000 Kia Rhino truck.
Mrs. Susana Eduful presided over the court that issued the bench warrant for the arrest of Mr. Stephen Kwaku Amponsah for neglecting to appear in court.
The prosecutor, Police Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, informed the court that Mr. Amponsah, who was accused of theft and fraudulent breach of trust, had fled.
The court deferred the case until July 25, when Mr. Amponsah will present his opening statement.
The court heard that in February 2022, WO1 Offei handed the defendant his Rhino truck in exchange for a monthly payment of GH4,500 to the owner.
After receiving the vehicle, the suspect, according to Insp. Teye-Okuffo, failed to account for it and went into concealment.
According to the prosecution, the complainant reported the incident to the police, which led to the detention of the defendant, who initially denied committing the crime in his caution statement.
Insp. Teye-Okuffo stated that the accused subsequently admitted to selling the vehicle to this case’s witness, Madam Dora Kuku Assem, for GH55,000.
During the investigation, the court heard, the vehicle was discovered and recovered.
