A court orders police to open 17 local government secretariats in Plateau – Nigeria

A local court in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, has ordered police to unseal the state’s 17 local government secretariats.

The Daily Post recalls that State Police Commissioner Bartholomew Onyeka secured all secretariats in June, following Governor Caleb Mutuwang’s suspension of elected chairmen and councilors.

The commissioner stated that the secretariats were enclosed to prevent party supporters from disrupting law and order.

In his ruling on Monday, Justice H. H. Dolnaan issued an interim order requiring CP Bartholomew Onyeka to direct his men to immediately vacate all secretariats to enable workers to resume their duties.

The court scheduled the mention and hearing of the motion on notice for August 7.

The order followed an ex parte application filed by D. P. Dusu in the Plateau State Attorney-General’s complaint against the CP, case number ACB/CV/106/2023.
