A House Committee Proposes To Reduce Medicare’s Out-Of-Pocket Drug Expenditures

IN WASHINGTON 24 July 2023— Monday, according to bill text obtained by STAT, a key House committee announced their own plans to increase healthcare transparency and reduce some patient healthcare costs.

The House Ways and Means Committee package includes a new provision that would assure, beginning in 2027, that patients in the Medicare program pay the discounted price that insurers negotiate with drug manufacturers rather than the higher sticker prices.

The protection has not been proposed in any other bill considered by congressional health care committees.
