BREAKING: The Tribunal reserves its decision on Atiku’s Petition to Invalidate Tinubu’s Election: Nigeria

Tuesday in Abuja, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal reserved judgment on the petition of Abubakar Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to overturn Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

While deferring judgment, the chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Simon Tsammani, stated that the date of its delivery would be communicated to the disputing parties.

Atiku, the principal petitioner, pleaded with the Tribunal to grant his petition substantial justice rather than a technical ruling that could impede the administration of justice.

He insisted that Tinubu be disqualified based on the American Court’s ruling in which he was ordered to disgorge $460,000 for drug- and money-related offenses.

His primary counsel, Chief Chris Uche SAN, adopted Atiku’s closing statement.

However, counsel for the All Progressives Congress, APC, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, urged the court to disregard the arguments on the grounds that the alleged judgment was issued more than three decades ago.

On his own behalf, President Tinubu, represented by legal luminary Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, argued that the petition should be dismissed because Atiku and the PDP’s complaints are directed at the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

Details to come.
