Emefiele’s detention: The court orders the DSS director’s release order to be served

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, permission to serve the order of court admitting Yusuf Magaji Bichi to bail and directing his remand in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service on Magaji Bichi.

On Tuesday, Justice Nicholas Oweibo issued the order in response to an ex-parte motion filed by Emefiele’s attorney, Ogonnaya Sonuga.

According to The Guardian, Adeogun Ayodele Samuel of Victor Opara Law Firm provided a 15-paragraph affidavit in support of the application.

On July 25, 2023, the Daily Post reported that the court granted Emefiele N20 million in bail after he was charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The suspended CBN governor is on trial for two counts involving the illegal possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition and a shotgun with a single barrel.

He entered a not-guilty plea to the charge.

The DSS arrested Emefiele following court proceedings.
