Former President of the United States Donald Trump has been charged with attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
It is the former president’s third indictment in four months and the most severe legal threat he has yet faced as he attempts to return to the White House in 2024.
Mr. Trump was charged in a four-count, 45-page indictment with conspiring to “defraud the United States” by preventing Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory.
Prosecutors alleged that on January 6, 2021, then-President Trump incited the disturbance at the U.S. Capitol by promoting false claims of voter fraud, putting pressure on state and federal officials to alter the results, and inciting a riot.
