Former President John Dramani Mahama has responded to the news that the sanitation minister’s residence has been robbed of vast sums of money.
On Friday, July 21, 2023, Ghanaians are actively reacting on social media to the news that an Accra circuit court is hearing a case involving the alleged theft of vast sums of money from the residence of sanitation and water resources minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah by her housekeepers.
The opposition NDC candidate for the 2024 elections deemed it disgraceful that millions of Ghana cedis were stolen between July and October 2022. On Friday, “Cecilia Dapaah” was the top trend on Twitter for several hours.
Using Twitter, Mahama, the opposition NDC candidate for the 2024 elections, stated that it was unfathomable that a minister would retain such large sums of money at her home.
“$1 million plus €300k and millions of GHS in the residence of a Ghanaian minister?” he tweeted.
Mahama drags Akufo-Addo through the misappropriated funds of Cecilia Dapaah.
Even if the minister legitimately acquired the money, the former president and the man predicted by experts and international polls to become Ghana’s next president in 2024 said it was inexplicable that she would retain such a large sum at her home.
“Even if genuinely acquired, why keep millions of dollars of hard currency at home?” he questioned.
He then attacked the sanitation minister’s superior, President Nana Akufo-Addo, for employing a subpar public servant.
He wondered, “Will @NAkufoAddo ever set a good example for public officeholders in his administration?”
The opposition NDC has frequently criticized Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration for corruption, mismanagement of the economy, and impoverishing the nation.
