Today, Twitter updated its Android app by replacing the iconic bird logo with its new X logo as part of its ongoing rebranding efforts.
Additionally, the company amended its app listing on the Google Play Store to reflect the new branding by including screenshots of the app with black backgrounds and the X logo. The social network has attempted to remove all Twitter branding from these screen captures.
“The X app is a trusted digital town square for everyone,” the app’s description states. In the app’s description, the company also noted that users can upload and view videos up to three hours in length. However, according to the Twitter Blue support page, users can upload videos up to two hours in length.
Notably, the company’s Twitter Lite app retains the Twitter logo. However, this is not surprising considering the application was last updated in May 2021.
This week, the social media company changed its official handle from @twitter to @X, with other affiliated handles also dropping the “Twitter” suffix. Gene X Hwang of the corporate photography and videography studio Orange Photography told TechCrunch that the company took over @X without warning or compensation. The company offered Hwang a tour of X’s headquarters and X merchandise in a letter as a “reflection of our appreciation.
